Strictly Come Dancing's Pixie Lott: 'I'd like to swap places with Beyoncé'
THE pop star opens up about her model boyfriend Oliver Cheshire and her infatuation with Beyoncé
By ROZ LEWIS
Pop star Pixie Lott, 24, has had three number one hits and her latest album, Platinum Pixie, was released last year. In 2014, Pixie also competed in Strictly Come Dancing and made her acting debut in Inspector George Gently. She lives in London with her boyfriend, model Oliver Cheshire.
Tell us about the campaign with Land Rover – what is that all about?
It’s about encouraging people to get outdoors and be active so we don’t succumb to any hibernatory tendencies. Learning to drive is on my to-do list – I haven’t got round to it yet, so Oliver, my boyfriend, drives us in my Range Rover.
What are your musical ambitions this year?
I’m busy writing a new album and recording. It has a real fresh, pop sound. I’ve just toured the UK, Europe and Asia, which I’ve really loved. I haven’t released any music in America yet, which I’d love to do at some point.

Tell us about appearing on Inspector George Gently?
Last year’s appearance came about because I did a sketch with Rowan Atkinson called Goodness Gracious Me – a song that Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren made famous – for a charity event. The producers saw it and invited me to read and then I got the part. Martin Shaw was great to work with. I’d like to do more acting but nothing is in the pipeline.
Any plans to appear in a musical?
No firm plans, but it would be nice to get a short-term part. I saw Usher in Chicago, which was amazing. There’s never enough time to do everything I want to, though.
Are you still dancing after Strictly?
I haven’t done much since I left the show. The plan was for Trent Whiddon, my dance partner, to teach me the dances I didn’t manage to do but he is on the Strictly tour and is really busy.
What’s the best showbiz party you’ve been to?
Perhaps the very first one I went to, when I was 15 or 16, in Los Angeles. I went with my friend, Carla. We sat very close to Justin Timberlake and chatted to Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas.
Who would you like to swap places with for 24 hours?
Beyoncé. She has one of the best recording voices and her dancing matches her singing. There aren’t many who can do both.
What is the strangest thing you’ve read about yourself?
There was one article that said for my “diva demands” I had to have red M&Ms, a philosophy book and a globe of the world in my dressing room. Who on earth made that up? I’ve no idea!
